 : Gourd Shakere Making :

This red gourd shakere just happened. I had planned to make something different but sometimes things just turn out their own way.

The Red Shakere
I've broken down making the shakere into steps. The steps could be further broken down. It isn't hard, get some supplies and get going.

Ingredients
You will need
one cured bottle gourd (or other hard shelled gourd)
leather dye
hemp twine
feather boa
mardi gras beads
and tools:
a woodburning tool, a fine tooth hacksaw, beading pliers or needle nose pliers, plastic scrubber, washing tub/bucket

The First Step
Getting Nice Clean Gourds means getting the gourds and cleaning them.

The Second Step
Coloring the Gourd.

The Third Step
Opening the Gourd, removing the seeds, cleaning the inside, preparing for the gourd to be a water storage vessle (optional).

The Fourth Step
Pyrography (woodburning the designs)

The Fifth Step
Making the net end rings from the feather boa

Netting the beads together
