Pyrography is called wood burning, when on wood, but for some reason we don't call it gourd burning for gourds and you can't buy a gourd burner. Fortunately, you can do pyrography with a hobby wood burner.

Burning in your design
The woodburner has several tips. I'm using the wedge shaped one. Keep it nice and sharp, it sort of cuts and burns at the same time. I chose eyes for the design for mystical reasons I cannot fully explain.

I was thinking I would go back with leather dye of a dark or black color for the eye pupils, but the project had a timetable of its own which did not allow for 2 more days of curing. The eyes on the upper can be viewed in two different ways, from straight on it looks like a sort of doll.
